Fortunate

I look outside the window
As a bright new day begins
I'm given opportunities
To succeed once again
But daylight brings reflection
About those more challenged than me
Who face several uphill battles
That no one ever sees

For I know I'm the fortunate one
Able to live from day to day
With easily hidden symptoms
Only mildly in the way
It's important to remember
That the effects are not the same
Several degrees of symptoms
All under one broad name

So as I see my situation
I realize I must do more
To see the betterment of everyone
Looking through the open door
So I ask all my fellow patients
To slowly grab my hand
As my friends and I will lift you
With all the strength we can
