An artistic rant for Independence Day
Freedom’s Fading Glory
By AJ Coyner
Dawn breaks in the eastern sky
On this fourth day of July
A sleeping populace wonders why
We celebrate this day
Is it for the flashes bright?
Thunderous explosions in the night?
Or is the freedoms and the rights
Our leaders strip away?
The founders wished this country strong
But apathy’s set in far too long
And now it seems all’s going wrong
And everyone just wants to play
But on this day remember still
Our destiny we need fulfill
A nation built on the people’s will
Gain strength and lead the way
And while we rest and all relax
Please keep us safe from all attacks
Protect the men who watch our backs
This I solemnly pray
Recall how freedom used to be
A battle cry for sovereignty
If we don’t act soon, it's history
On this Independence Day
